I started working on the floor pan to my 48 Chevy the other day, and noticed the previous owner did some interesting repairs. They seem to have cut out sections of rust then welded fresh steel above the old rusted steel, in addition to welding some steel channeling underneath (please see pics) .

I ground off the rest of the rust on the floor pan, and with the except of a few small holes that can be welded shut it's in good shape.

My question is should I weld the old metal to the new plate to keep water from collecting between the two surfaces, or completely cut out the old metal and weld new steel supports in?

Also, there is a rod connector on the front passenger side of the cab. Does anyone know what this is and if it is needed? I'd prefer to cut it out since it currently doesn't seem to have a use.

I got a 1952 chevy truck fron a friend that he started by putting on a s10 frame,I don't like the s10 front end because it looks too narrow.Anybody have a fix ????Has anyone ever cut one and widen it out ??? As far the floor being patched,it depends on if your truck is going to be a show truck are a driver,if its going to be for show then cut it out and fix it right,if its just a driver then weld the douple floor togther to keep the water out and put some bed linner spray over it.Motorboy
