it's the same old question, but here goes, on my 49 I've finished all the changing from 6v to 12v, I put a new 12v coil that required a resistor hooked it up, a new 12v solenoid with the S terminal to the starter button, the I terminal directly to the + side of coil along with the hot wire from ign. to coil resistor to the + side of coil, I hope this all sounds right, anyway I turned the key on hit the starter button and it started right up, I was wondering the previous owner who kinda half arssed the change from 6 to 12v left the 6v solenoid with a ballist resistor between the ign. feed wire(12v) and the 6v coil, its all 12v now and I was wondering if I would have to put a resistor of some sort between 12v supply and 6v dist. and points  if so could you tell me where it goes, it has the original points which I assume is 6v,being after the ballast resistor it was all 6v, will these points stand up to 12v? any help or advice will be appreciated, thanks JoJo

Doc here, :pimp:

12 Volts from ignition switch to the ballast resistor to the coil + Is correct for Primary Ignition.

12 Volts from the "I" or "R" terminal to the + Side of the coil is correct.

As far as the points and distributer, there is no such thing as a 6 or 12 volt ignition (unless it has an Aftermarket Electronic module) NO CHANGES need be made to the points rotor or cap..The points run at about 400 volts anyway..

So you should be good to go.

thanks Doc, the truck runs fine. I wasn't sure about the points though, also I was just looking on ebay at a 49 ford w/ a flathead engine (110 hp) basically stock except it has a c4 automatic trans. Is it possible to hook a c4 to a flathead engine? I like the stock flathead in mine, it runs great, but its a 3sp. and geared low, it would be nice to change it to an auto. anyway thanks again, you guys are a big help! JoJo

You might want to post that in Transmissions... Somewhere IIRC, I saw something about automatics that will adapt to Flatheads..
