Hey guys, I need some help. I have a few questions but want to start at the beginning. So I just had my 4L60E transmission rebuilt. Its out of a 2001 Chevy 1500 5.3
I got it back from the guy and this is what went on, step by step. Long post warning!
I flushed the transmission cooler out good. Put 1 can of tranny flush in it and blew it out clean until I saw clean tranny flush fluid come through. I prefilled the torque converter before putting it on. It was locked in correctly. It measured 1 1/16" on straight edge from the bolt hole of the torque converter. Bolted the trans up, started filling it, got to 6 qts., and then it was really taking fluid slowly after that. Eventually got 10 qts. in it, started it up put it in reverse and NOTHING. Run through all the gears and it's like there's nothing, then applied a little bit of gas then it slips but does not want to move, so I called the guy who rebuilt it, loaded it and took it to him.
1st thing guy says is I broke the pump. I told him no the pump is not broken, I'm not a rookie I do mechanics on everything, it's not my first one. So guy splits tranny while I'm there watching to find the problem. He's still saying it's the pump and I broke it. He gets it apart and says the pump is fine- it's perfect. Everything is fine, but the low end clutches are smoked, which he says are from me loading it. Now I loaded it from my garage to my trailer which was about 100 ft.
The guy completely rebuilds again, while I'm still there. He says he air tested everything and everything shifted perfect. Put it back in truck and have gears now but it slips in 2 3 and 4th for sure. I'm not 100% sure about 1st and R, as I was only riding with when he test drove it. From where I sat it felt good though. He never really "gassed" it enough to test it.
The guy says now that the slipping is caused by low fluid pressure. So this is what I want to ask.
1. What causes the low fluid pressure?
2. Is it something with the PCM?
3. If it is a bad PCM is that due to a bad rebuilt?
4. What all typically gets changed in the valve body with a rebuilt, and would the PCM get changed normally?

Also- would a bad ground anywhere create an electrical issue that would be creating this problem? If so where would it be- any ideas where to start??

Not sure what you are referring to when you say PCM.The PCM is the controller for the engine & transmission. For a normal trans rebuild, nothing should need to he adjusted thru the PCM.
A true quality rebuild should include new electrical parts, including shift solenoid,& EPC solenoid.The EPC (electronic psi control)solenoid controls line psi electronically, so, yes, bad wiring/ground could effect it's function.It could also be partially clogged from debris if not cleaned.There is a small screen that traps debris in the EPC.
A good rebuilder will check for proper line psi & function after a rebuild to make sure everything is within spec.Most will replace the EPC & shift solenoids & their related harnesses during a proper rebuild.
