4WD question

Why is it unadvisable to run different tires on one axle on 4WD. Each tire will grip differently, right? Is there anything else that's bad about it?

every manufactures tire diamaters are diffrent.. some by inches, some less.... so with the drivetrain spinning at the same speed, it effectivly changes the gear ratio and causes all sorts of wear and havoc on the 4x4
