my dad has a 93 dodge dakota 5.2 v8 and it has i think a a500 or 42re trans i dont know. The transmission pulls for a couple of secs. thin stops you can turn the truck off back on and it pulls again for a couple of secs. I dont know anything about this trans but i was looking at parts could the Transmission Control Solenoid be doing this or do i have to rebuild this transmission.

I also have changed the trans fluid and filter now its black again i was thinking the clutchs could be burnt out.

yep we are going to pick up a junk yard trans for $58 pull it yourself.

Considering that the scrap value of that transmission is around $40-$45, that is a steal of a deal. At that price it is hard to go wrong, just out about $20 or so and labor if the transmisson turns out to have unknown problems.

im not sure if the trans in this truck is a 42re but what other car can i get this transmission out of.

ram or dakota 1995 they changed to electronic governer so stay 91-94
500 or 518 the 518 is stonger if your 2wd a older 904 or 727 will go in pretty easy

ya found that this truck has a 46re or a a518 im going to pull the trans and take it apart first just in case their are gears broke.

the re trans has the electic governer but still can be used for parts

turns out im going to rebuild the transmission sucks to be me i do 1 now everyone wants theirs rebuilt.
