Can't you get someone to custom bend and exhaust pipe for that?
I'd shop around the muffler shops till I found someone who will at least try.

I had forgotten I posted this here. The solution was given on some old FORD boards and I should have posted the result here.

The air-cooled FORD(MERC)-O-MATICS have a large intake duct hanging off the left side of the main case. It doesn't allow any pipe to be run on the left side of the vehicle. You simply remove the outer intake duct (it faces rearwards) and there is still a screen there that will not allow any fresh road kill to be drawn into the cooling fins of the convertor. It doesn't seem to disrupt the intake air flow.
