Canadian versions had a Powerglide. Controlled coupling transmissions are not that user friendly.

That version of Hydramatic, had a modulated pitch stator in the convertor. Could vary torque multiplication under load.
Wasn't quite as bad as the Buick Dynaflow but still a slush box.

Nope. Wrong transmission. ST 300 & ST 400 had variable pitch stators. This transmission has twin couplings or basically 2 convertors. First convertor has a planetary gear set and the other is a fluid coupling. Special tools are needed for the second coupling. As I said, they are not real user friendly.

Wow , dual convertors, what were they smoking? As if variable pitch wasn't enough of a cluster.
