I'm looking at a 57 Belair 4 door, here's the problem. The rear doors are sticking because the door pillar is not real secure. The guy selling it tells me if I install new rockers it will firm up the pillar enough that the doors will be functional. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject. What else should I be looking at. The floors and the rest of the body are solid.
Thanks,
Tim

You need to get some advice from a 57 BelAir 4dr Hardtop owner who doesn't have his car for sale!
If replacing the rockers are all that's needed to fix up this car and everything else is so darn nice, WHY does he want to send it down the road? I's guess because he can't get the back dors to function properly and the cost of doing so is too much!? The car had better be a steal!

Not a '57 expert by any means but have done a few tri-fives. You might look under the car and check the body mounts that hold it to the frame, they have a tendency to rust away in climates that promote it. Because it is a Hardtop all that supports the doors is the rocker panel (inner and outer) so he could be right on with that diagnosis(it could even be hinges) and not have the ability or $$ to pay someone else. All the components I've mention (and many more)are readily available.

The 4 door HT and convert have the same frame. The 2 dr HT and all others have a different frame. That is to support the long windowless span/no roof support. The difference could well be additional body supports so I say, buyer beware!!!
