Just bought a 1964 Dodge 880 V8. How do I tell which engine is in it? Are the intake manifold numbers a clue? Car has two barrel and sigle exhaust, (right now).

In 64 chrysler corp had several different engine types there was the small block 273 then there was the polyspherical V8 in 318 and 383 both with 2bbl ant the big block in 360,383(intermediate)413 and 426 all of these engines were available with 2bbl carbs with the exception of the 426 so where is your distributor and what position is it in
Your 64'Polara was not sold new with 273 in.to big a car.Standard v-8 was 318 in./230hp.they were red from factory.All other V-8's were a blue/green,the 361's were 2bbl.,383's,2or4bbl.the 413/426 were all 4bbl or 2 4bbls.on 426 maxwedge race motors.
If the dist.is back by firewall it's a 318,up front by the alt.it's one of the others.383's ID# is behind p/s pump lt.ft.of block,413/426 ID# is on a flat pad lt.ft.of intake, but part of eng.block.As the 318 was standard in all lg.Dodges in 64'it's probably what you've got.
This is not the 318 that is still in use by Dodge today and pts. don't interchange. The old 318 were known as polyheads and this should be understood when buying pts.
I believe Car is an 880. Bought it from Ole Lady down the street from me. It has 42,000 original miles.
Distributor is on passenger side front. Hoping it is a 383.Would like to put dual exhaust, alum intake and 4 barrel and that is all.
