I have shortened plenty of heavy truck chassis but those are a differrnt animal, when ever i get a call for a smaller truck like an f450 or similar truck i cut behind the cab and remove the length of chassis needed and bring them together weld and then i get a peice of channel that fit snug inside the chassis drill that and the chassis and bolt it together. Then the usual drive shaft fuel line etc.. i have done countless in this manner and never had had one failure i have done this with smaller dump trucks, tow trucks, car haulers custom flatbeds. This was a condensed version of how i do it. Theres alot more to it but i think you get the general idea.
