Standard 307 bore 3.875" (283 bore, 327 crank)
Standard 327 bore 4.000"
Could have been a 307 block that someone bored to 4.000". Have the cylinder walls sonic tested at a good machine shop. If they're too thin, you'll have an overheating beast that you can't fix. Also have the block and caps magnafluxed for cracks before you lay down the long green. TRUST NOBODY.

You were wise to look up the casting number before buying. Since most don`t bother to check it until after they`ve bought it only to find they got took. The casting number given is indeed a 307. While I like a 307 and would build them for economy street performance engines the problem is you can only get rebuilder pistons for them that have .020 off the deck heights.
However, if you wanted a 327 the solution is simple, get a 307 crank and drop it in a 350 block, use 327 pistons and you have a 327.

Don't forget the 307 connecting rods to build a 327.
Don't need to be 307 connecting rods specifically. The 307 rod is just the common large journal 5.7" rod used in every SBC other than small journal engines and 400's. Nothing at all special about a "307" rod.
