I hate to post this question because, although i have spent some time reading through old posts, im sure its been addressed somewhere before, but any help- or if someone can point me in the right direction- i would be very grateful. Ive a 69 ford galaxie. I want to put 17 inch wheels on it, but im not certain if can do this, and with how wide a tire. I know my factory wheels have 4in backspacing and 4.5 inch / 5 lugs. Im not sure if the wheels are 6in or 7in (havent dismounted the tire from the wheel)- I just dont want to order the wheels and find the wont fit without rubbing . it looks like i could put just about anything smaller than a washing machine in the wheel wells, but just curious if anyone has any experience with this vehicle and wheel sizing. Thanks ! (and do i need to get a "heavy duty" wheel or if i can find a fit- but a tire/wheel package from "tuner" wheel dealer?)

I've not done it myself but I don't see why you couldn't. You would have to pay attention to the back spacing though as the 17" wheels have deeper spacing to clear the disk brake calipers. That would move the tire into the wheel well deeper and could result in the tires rubbing. Your stock wheels are most likely 7". Hopefully someone on here has done it and can be of more help.
