Can anyone help me out. my 1990 K2500 4X4 is stuck in first and I am looking for tricks ideas and maybe some help. I can give a complete run down of what everything is doing it is needed to know.

Check the gear (plastic) on the governor and the valve inside the governor asembly.

Check to see if the vaccum modulator hose slipped off. On my TH400 it is on the right side of the trans housing.

if its a 700 there is no modulator

Yes it has reverse and I adjusted the TV cable to its specks.
I bought a new govenor just have to put it in yet.

I bought a new govener and have yet to put it in. I hope it fixes the problem. Cause spending $50 to get a new govenor is pricey but did it anyways just got to drop the front drive shaft and put the new one in.

It could also be a stuck 1-2 valvetrain in the valve body. I had one apart(cast iron VB) and cleaned up the 1-2 shift valve train then added lubeguard red to new fluid and it was fixed. I seem to remember another one with an aluminum valve body that needed to be reamed and an oversized valve installed.

I took it apart and bad news for me.....

I dumped $50 into a new govenor and pulled the pan to find my tranny fluid was black and there was tons of clutch pieces in the bottom of the pan. Now on to finding a good cheap used 700R4

How hard is it to rebuild a 700R4 from top to bottom. I have the OEM factory Books made for my 1990 chevy. But I have never rebuilt a tranny before and the book shows everything just looks complicated.

The 700R4 isn't the easiest Trans to start out with if you've never built one. I suggest investing in a Rebuild/Overhaul video and an ATSG Manual to help you along.
One tool that is needed is the rear clutch spring compressor tool and a good set of Lock-Ring pliers. Other things/tools can be used for most parts. Should replace all the Bushings, Trans Shop will do it fairly cheap.
