hi. im rebuilding a 1986 suburban trans for my 89 camaro. how do i rebuild the pump, and is it very difficult? i've overhauled a 700 before, but didn't touch the valve body or pump. the tv spring was broken and filled the pan with my new trans kit. also, which of the rebuild tools are absolutely needed? the input shaft seals and valve body seem to be the problems for me.

Disassemble the pump and inspect for wear & scoring, check internal clearances, these are critical. Too loose = low pressure, too tight = binding parts when hot. If your pump has a lot of wear or scoring from metal/trash, I suggest a new rebuilt pump unless you have access to a lathe and accurate Mics.
