87 tempo 2.3 wiring problem

This car will start and run until the voltage reaches 14 volts then dies. I have good fuel pressure, spark, and injector pulse. If i unplug the alternator it runs great. I have replaced the alternator twice already. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a bad voltage regulator which is making the alternator into a monster and overloading the engine. Seems like you would have a fried main lead from your alternator though. Have you changed regulators too?

The regulator is built into the alternator. We bought new alternators because we did not trust rebuilts to have all new parts.
