Is there any easy way to tell if the rear has the 2.891 or 3.062 case without taking it apart. Both carriers I have are in the shop so easy to look at.

bearing size

If you have the axles, that can tell you, as the 28 sline axle uses the smaller of the two bearings vs the 31 spline axles.

Some 28 spline units have had the larger bearing in them, but that is a rarity.

9 inch bearings

As an afterthought, the 31 spline axles will not fit into the smaller bearing carrier.

Both of my pots are 31 spline. I thought I read somewhere that you could get both bearing sizes with 31 spline. I do know that one of them the axle seems to be a tighter fit as it goes through.
