I have a little issue guys with my new motor and the steering. The problem is most likely an easy fix but im new to this and not sure what i can and cant do to fix it. I have a 1949 for pickup and put a 302 motor in and the drive side headers wont fit due to the old stering box. So what can i do to fix this? Can i put a newer steering box in and mount it somewhere else mabe lower on the frame or on my axle? Any help would be greatly appreciatied

Not the answer you are looking for B U T You can move the engine/transmission over ... Ford did the very same thing in a lot of it's vehicles from the factory. I have the SBC in BOTH of my 32 Fords moved over to the right side about 3/4 ths of a inch ... to gain clearance for the steering.

Don't know if your engine is centered but in the modern era (at least starting in the 60's or earlier), the engine and trans was moved over to the right for clearance not for only under the hood, but also for more foot room in the floor board for the driver. Another option is the modify the headers. That's probably the easiest solution.

The Ford Econoline Vans had the engine/transmission moved over at least 2 or 3 inches ... with no adverse effect. ;)

MY 51 f1 jag front suspension

You could get a power steering box or a manual box
from a toyota pick up--they fit the 48-52 & maybe newer
ford pick up's.

You could also get a older jag front end pretty cheap
that would give you power rack & pinion--coil springs
disc brakes & it is an almost bolt in job. I only paid $100
for mine & i have a 51 ford f1 pick up.Where else can you go
& get all of that for $100--mine came off of a 1977 jag :welcome:
