Hello,

I just ordered some paint from this place. www.paintforcars.com . It was very cheap and I am just looking for something to make my '83 K5 Blazer a little better looking to the eyes. I went for a gallon of clear and a gallon base coat. Is that enough to cover my blazer? What about thinners/hardeners? When will I need to add these and any suggestions on how much to add?

Thanks,
Chris

Well, when it comes to paint you get what you pay for. As for hardeners, etc, read the instructions on the can. The hardener will go in with the paint when you mix it. But for $29 a gallon, I think I would have just added a few more bucks to it and either go to an Earl Scheib or to a Maaco and not had to mess with shooting it myself. The paint that those places use is probably about the same. Also don't be surprised if after you are done you are not pleased with it. Not to knock any of your skills, but I pay more for that for stain for my house. If you want a quality paint, you will have to shell out the green for it. At $29 a gallon I doubt if it will last or hold a shine on it for very long at all.

Kevin,

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I don't mind if you knock my spraying skills. This will actually be the first time I will have ever painted a vehicle. I didn't want to waste expensive paint on my first time. This Blazer is also just a little side project I have going, it isn't by any means going to ever be pretty or a show car. I just don't want to be mistaken for a redneck when driving it the way it looks now. :D I don't really mind if it doesn't look all that great, I am sure in a year or so it will be a totally different color again.

One more thing, so both the reducer and the hardener go into the paint? Does anything get added to the clearcoat?
