I found a good deal on a nice 111W153 and I'd like to pick it up. I saw a post by DanTwoLakes that mentioned that it may be possible to add a reverse to this machine. Can anyone expound on if this really is possible and if so, how?

Yes, it is possible. You need to call an industrial sewing machine mechanic to see what it would cost.

Thanks Dan - now I know I'm not chasing my tail on something that can't be done... Next question is if it's worth the money for the upgrade, find a 156, or just deal with no reverse...

Not having reverse is not a big deal unless you do a lot of sewing. Without reverse, you stitch to the end, lift the foot and re-insert the needle a couple stitches back and then sew over the last couple stitches again to lock the end of the stitch line down.

I am just starting, so it sounds like I can work without reverse while I practice practice practice. Thanks for your advice.

I own a 153. Great machine! Why don't u just go pick up a model that has reverse built into it? Seems to be easier to do than to go through all that trouble.
