Don't know if this is the right forum but my driver's side door on my 97 Avenger is hanging down and not opening and shutting right. I have to lift it to close it. Would someone be kind enough to give me some tips on adjusting the door? I tried loosening the bolts on the hinges, holding it up, and tightening them but that didn't help. I also lowered the bar that the door latches onto when it closes but none have helped. Thanks in advance. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

More than likely you need to get new hinges. This happens all the time on the GM F-body's. The door is pretty heavy and usually will wear down the little bushing on the hinge pin causing the door to sag. Go to your local dealer and see if they sell a hinge pin and bushing kit, if not go to a salvage yard and try to find another avenger and take the hinges. You may even have to buy the new hinges from the dealership, but if you do it won't be cheap so use this as a last resort.

Yeah, i have a 96 avenger that did the same thing. The avengers don't have bushings in the doors but if you go to an auto body specialist then they will put them in. It costs me 75$. It really helps but you will stil be able to move it when it is almost closed, but it will close right.

Grab the corner of the door while it's open and lift up (hard), usually a little "tweaking" will get the door to shut properly. It's not that old that the bushing should be shot already, a lot of times the door gets bent out of shape from people using the door as a crutch when they enter and exit the vehicle.

Worth a try.

Wanted to update everyone. I tried the shim thing. Well not a shim but using spacer/washers on the bolt where it mounted to the piller. Unfortunately I found out that the issue was not the hinge but the pillar itself was rusted out. Took it to a pro who welded new pieces in and reinforced it. Cost a little over 1K. Sucks to be me. Thanks for all the advice and help. :(
