There is something chattering on my brothers '66 Catalina but we can't figure out what it is exactly or what part it is. We took his car to a family get together in spartanburg (200 miles) and the whole way down it was making a funny noise (chattering) I thought it was a lean condition at first because we had changed the jets the night before but the spark plugs read good and it didn't make a difference putting the old ones back in. When I had switched the jets my cousin said he thought he heard some valve noises so when we got back home I tried to locate were the sound was coming from( the next day). It seemed to be coming from the passenger side valve cover so I took it off and started it up. I then narrowed it down to the front two cylinders, by then the oil had warmed up alittle and one of the rockers is shooting streams oil out of it whenever it comes up. This is the first time I have done anything with valves so I don't exactly know what it or I should or shouldn't do . What would ya'll try if it were your engine? Also the vacuum is varying about a half of a psi at idle and we put a electronic ignition from a later model pontiac on it with 8.8 wires. We haven't re-curved the distributor yet but are going to. The initial timing is set at 6. I don't know what the final timing is or when it all comes in at.

oh yeah, we run 93 with lead additive

Those old motors were famous for bad timing chains. So bad they rattle against the cover (alum housing). Pull the dist. cap, then rock the harmonic balancer forward and back. See it there is movement before the rotor starts to turn. If there is, replace the timing set.
