Got another question on my th350 rebuild. I'm at the point where I drop the anti-clunk spring in, push the low/reverse roller-clutch assembly over it and snap the big retaining ring in place. I don't see how this helps save the case since the anti-clunk spring looks like it's just pinned against the side of the case by both the roller clutch and retaining ring...am I doing something wrong?

If I remember right, with the tranny sitting pan side up, the clunk spring will be in about the 1 o-clock position (I don't think you can put it in any other way). Pretty much looks like it does nothing is how it looks when installed correctly. I hope that helps you.

If you don't mind the possibility of a clunk when going from reverse to forward gear, you can buy a case saver for a couple of bucks from Napa or any other real parts store. It's not a real loud clunk or anything, more of a click. It's fun sometimes when someone insists that you need to check your U-joints after hearing that click that sounds nothing like a U-joint.
