I wanted to get the New Year started of right by working on the 41 Chevy today. We finished up the rear end install today with new brakes, drums and hardware. Put on some old rims and set her on the floor. My helper took a couple pics under the car. We need to push it outside to get a better look at the overall stance but it looks good to me in the garage so far. :thumbup:

i am

i thought i would be the only one working on cars today i started the day off watching Barrett Jackson auction and that just depressed me sure wish i could afford some of those rides not to my car i finished putting the new motor in around Thanksgiving and today i just put some finishing touches on a new carb and rad nothing to hard today. but man she runs fine right now. have a happy new year and a great day working on your ride

anyone working on their car new years day

I took my 30 chevy cowling and radiator sheet metal in to where I work an blasted them since I knew no one else would be there on their day off. I want to get this truck ready for apple fest in october. I powder coated the dash with black peel,it looks great. I done that at work for free,everyone there thought it looked cool.

Barret Jackson and rust

I refuse to watch BJ auctions anymore. Too depressing in many ways. Prices, and the fact that this show is at least partially responsible for prices on cars getting ridiculous. The idiots with more dollars than sense are not worth talking about. It must be nice.

What do you plan to do with that surface rust under the 40? What's your plans for it when done?

I installed my TKO in my Stang by myself... ouch. This round is just a mock up to get the tranny cross member built and final check the header clearance for the rack and pinion. No floor pans made is a lot easier though.. lol

I really hope to get the Stang finished this year so I can begin looking for a Street Rod project since I've been gathering parts on and off for years now.

Have a good build in 2007 all.

I put in about a half day working on the new project car (pulled the 302 and trans out of the donor)...but I DID have the Badger game on the shop TV. So that's sort of cheating.

I actually kinda took the day off. I was on vacation all week and pretty much worked o nthe car every day and got a little burnt out so I needed a break.

I too took the day off, been working on mind lately. Will finally be getting it blasted and from there to be painted.

I was in the garage from about 4 pm on until a bit after 9. Got some wiring done in the garage (and no, I didn't get shocked--this time :rolleyes: ), a couple hafl sheets of o.s.b. up, and then swept up a good portion of the mess. We came back home after spending sat, sun, and this morning in the La Crosse/PDC area. Gosh it's good to be home.

We kinda had a small family Christmas with my grandma on Sunday, and that was when she gave me a book that will more than likely will never sit on a bookshelf. It's way too interesting to lie around gathering dust. It's titled, "The American Auto Factory" and was co-written by Byron Olsen and Joseph Cabadas. Just the vintage photos in the book make it interesting. It shows in detail the history of the automobile from the turn of the century to the new cars of '02. Very cool reading, and it is destined to be a family hand-me-down if we ever have kids. If you get the chance, check it out.

I replaced the rear glass on the Camaro for one without the high level brakelight.
In a stroke of luck I got the glass from a guy just down the road who has just restored an ´89 Firebird, cost me all of 65 Dollars.
I thought it would be a nobrainer but the four bolts retaining the glass spun when I applied a wrench to the nuts, resulting in me having to drill the round headed bolts from the top.
Anyone sleeping in to recover from new years eve must have been well pleased. :evil:
So I got rid of this,

and now the car looks like this,

That was last years' auction, this years auction is Jan. 13-21. I watch, there's a lot of interest to me when I see 2 or 3 men battling to win an over-priced auto, kind of like a tug of war over a stuffed animal at a daycare center. Who's going to blink first. These people obviously have more money than sense. And occasionally someone gets a good deal. Dan

I puttered with my car for a couple of hours but nothing worth noting. Found that the @#%&*$ brand new TCI C4 transmission has a leak that I can't find. Might have to pull it out and put my own rebuild rebuilt spare in instead. :sweat:

The Speed Channel should be renamed the Barrett-Jackson/Pinks/Ricer/Biker Mega Often Repeats channel. At least last year they showed the Australian V8 supercar races and some of the rally car events that were fairly interesting.

Are you doing your own wiring or using a kit - it looked like you are doing your own in an earlier post - if so, good luck - only once did I do that and never again.

I shouldn't have have

I did a bunch of grinding & cutting & got a metal sliver in my eye, despite the fact that I was wearing eye protection. It was imbedded in my eyeball, so (today) it had to be extracted with tweezers & then smoothed out with some sort of sanding device. It was like the doctor was working on a car & not my eye. He told me that many times the debris doesn't fly directly into the eye, but falls from the eyelash or even deflects in around the corner of the glasses. I shouldn't have worked on New Year's Day.

I didn't work on mine per say, but I did buy the paint for it. Yeah, that sets you back a little. I took out the dash, and interior parts and gave them to my son to paint. He was wanting to paint something so I figured I was busy working on the new addition to the house why not let him have them and get 2 things done at once? So I have some paint on the interior of the 38. I'll post pics later once he gets some clear on'em. He's a fairly decent painter, probaly better than me. Can't wait to see what they look like.

Ouch! - That had to suck. Guess I've been lucky so far. I usually remember to grab the face shield but seem to forget until half way through the grind or cut too often. I have this false safety feeling with the normal glasses I guess.

Thanks for the graphic description... maybe that will help remind me next time.. :)

I posted this on an earlier thread:

A note on this and the reason that I wear chemical protection goggles is dated to when I worked as an large motor assembler during a long labor dispute at GE. I wore contacts, had safety glasses, the non-chem goggles and a face shield. I was grinding a freshly machined rotor and a couple of chips went over the top of the face shield, thru one of the goggle air holes and were stopped at the edge of my contact. Unless you have had a couple of pieces of steel literally drilled out of you iris, you don't know pain - so for me, a good reason for chem style goggles."

Ya might consider using the chemical type goggles :) :) They do a better job than the usuals and are only about a buck more.

I worked on my rod all day Friday and Monday. I got all my steering box mount built for the cowl steering, got the body connected to the frame and got my radiator/grille supports fabbed up.

I finally got my block (396 bored to 402) back from the machine shop and started putting it back together. Hope to be able to drop it in this weekend.
