Fantastic pictures. I'm guessing you'r hooked now.. I love how you can go into the pits and see the cars and talk to the drivers and crew. My wife had never been to a NHRA event, so we went to the Seattle event two years ago and shes been hooked ever since. She got to meet Ronda Hartman (Fram Dragster) she had her sign a picture of her Triumph Chopper, turns out Ronda had a Triumph also, so they talked for a few minutes. My wife thought that was so kool. From then on she was hooked. We've been every year since. Glad you had a great time. I saw a bit on the European Drag races and it looked cool too.

I´ve been hooked for years, seeing an American event changes everything. European drag racing is good but does not go on at such a pace, they don´t have to satisfy TV and don´t have such big sponsers on their backs.
My wife got to talk to Tony Pedregon in Spanish and I spoke to Mitch King who was quite blunt in saying his only reason for getting up in the morning was for his four second "fix"
The only "racing" that did not get me was the throttle stop racers,
ripping off the line then coming almost to a standstill then just cruisin the track.Everyone around me was asking what´s going on?

Good deal,I was wondering when you were gonna be back to talk about it.How did that chest feel when the Top Fuel and Funny Cars rip by?It is truly something that you can not explain to someone who has never been before!

I noticed the twin engine Freightrain pic.AT the US Nationals, the guys let my son behind the wheel, they put the engineers hat on him and I got a cool pic of it.

I had a good view of everything from my seat but as the pro cars went by everyone stood up, I was videoing as well so I lost the top end.
I had the ear plugs as I knew from the UK drags it can get pretty loud but the pressure on the chest was not to bad. I have been closer to fuel cars as the rules in the UK let them put the bleachers nearer.
I also went to Wilshire and the Peterson Museum and "popped" into the Hot Rod offices, the only guy on hand was Jeff Smith.
We jawed a bit about cars and stuff, he was very polite but must have wondered where in hell did he come from!
After wandering California I ended up back at the Fairplex and had a good look at the NHRA museum, they have some neat stuff there.
Driving was fun, almost as much as all the signs you have to read on the way, Right lane must turn right, that screwed me up a few times. Turning right on a red light is cool, we need that here.
My wife was blown away by the width of the streets and freeways
and the length.
We flew into L.A. at six pm and when I looked down at the city and saw all those headlights and taillights I thought this is not going to be easy.
I had started out on a Tuesday morning by the time I got to L.A. it was Tuesday evening there and I had been travelling 24 hours.
Almost wide eyed and legless I got a hire car and drove from LAX to downtown L.A.
Also went to Disneyland, but I´m not shouting too much about that.

Hey Malc, sounds like your experience was a good one, I called ahead for you and told people to be cool..j/k. Where did you stay? Did you get to pick up any parts? I wanted to go to Pomona, but went to Las Vegas NHRA 3 weeks earlier, then Famoso Goodguys, I would have been pushing wifey buttons for a Pomona trip. Off to Lake Tahoe for a 2 day working vacation this morning, 2 freestanding gas stoves to install in a 2 million dollar home on the lake. See you all Sunday. Dan

I stayed first off in a Quality Inn on Olympic/Bonnie & Brae,
the hotel was okay but a woman above us was boxing stuff until two in the morning, this went on for three days. As much as I complained nothing was done so we moved on to Ontario where I had booked rooms in the Sheraton at the airport.Next time that is where I´ll fly into and give LAX a miss.
After Pomona I went up to Springville to visit with Mark Hamilton
of MAD Electrical, he showed us around up there, giant redwoods etc. They get about four hours of sun light up there and it did get rather chilly.
I then went on down to Santa Monica, just to look at the Pacific
really, then tootled back over to Ontario to get the NHRA museum
before flying home.
I did not expect culture shock as I know pretty much how you all live over there, but food was difficult, more for my wife. Too much Mexican and Chinese, for us here that would be a place to visit as a treat not everydayfood.
I was amazed at the amount of spending going on, we spent some time in Ontario Mills Mall and at every turn there was someone handing over fistfuls of dollar bills, for extreems on that go to Disney.
You have so much space out there, all roads are a decent size and apart from a few morons driving was very pleasant and everbody was polite.
As I planned this trip at the last minute I did not get to sort out places to buy parts, I´ll do better next time.
I did get a used fueller piston out of one of Amatos cars, does that count ?
Just loaded more pics into my gallery.

Hey Malc, Springville in central Ca.? Above Porterville? About an hour from where I live, 36willys also. It sounds like you had a blast.
As much as I complained nothing was done so we moved on to Ontario where I had booked rooms in the Sheraton at the airport
I stayed there last spring, hot times for youngsters in the main bar downstairs. Too many rules for me, collared shirts, no tennis shoes, no jeans, etc, etc, list was a mile long.
I was amazed at the amount of spending going on, we spent some time in Ontario Mills Mall and at every turn there was someone handing over fistfuls of dollar bills, for extreems on that go to Disney.
I've lived here my entire life, the disposable income people have still amazes me. Hope to see you next year. Dan

I spoke to a Brit on the plane coming home, he had been in Cali three weeks and done Goodguys at Bakersfield, plus a whole bunch of criuses and swapmeets in between.
If I get to do it again next year it will be planned better.
Yesterday I uploaded pics taken at the Peterson museum.
