I have a B&M shifter on my TH350 and it's hard to be certain what gear one is in. I have a hard time getting to neutral from Drive as it wants to go to reverse. Has anyone ever made a detent or some way to be certain which gear, or to stop at neutral. The selection pretty much goes in a straight line up or down so I'm not sure some king of "gate" is possible. Or is there a better idea short of another shifter?

What B&M shifter model?? There are several.

Does it have the correct shifting lever on the trans with the cable hooked in the correct hole? There are several variations.

It has the correct shifter now, yes. The shifts are controled by a rod not a cable.

With that style shifter, the only detent feel comes from the detent spring and roller on the inner linkage inside the tranny pan. One trick is to take a spare spring lever and roller and cut the roller end off, then install the spring lever doubled-up on top of the stock one (like a leaf spring stack). It doubles the spring force put on the detent roller and increases the feel of each gear detent.
