I just recently had a B&M holeshot 2400 converter installed behind my 355 on a th400 tranny, but for some reason, it doesnt seem to have any stall. It acts like a stock converter. Has no flash stall. I cant even get my car to spin tires because its sluggish off the line

The car is a 79 camaro with a 355, the cam is a Lunati 292, 230 at .050, .480 lift. 10.1 compression. Im getting ready to put a better intake, AFR heads, and 1.6 rockers, which will increase duration slightly and lift to .512. I want the car to stall at least by 2200 rpm, preferably i would like a flash stall of 2500. But as of right now, it doesnt seem to have any stall at all. It drags against the brakes hard as well. But i cant get the car to spin from a stop even by putting it too the floor it just seems real sluggish because its taking off at 1000 rpm and its not making much power yet. Can someone tell me what could be the problem with this application and what i should do? thanks for all the help.

Converter stall speed is determined by several factors. The weight of your vehicle, tire diameter, rear gear ratio, cam choice and other engine modifications are ALL used to determine what stall speed you should be using.

The next thing that you should be aware of is that even with a higher than stock stall speed, the vehicle will still begin to move when easing or stomping on the gas pedal. Having a higher than stock stall converter does not mean that your vehicle will not move until you reach the advertised stall RPM range. You said it would begin taking off at 1000 RPM (it should). The problem is that your combo doesn't make much power at that RPM.

You do not have enough stall converter with your combo. Go to the Coan or Hughes converter sites and fill out their questionaire completely. They will suggest a stall speed for your application that will work.

how expensive was this converter.....

I've heard many stories from many people who bought cheap convertersbehind a hot motor, had their cars suck, and then started to work their way up the ladder. I'd go for one thats about 400 dollars or more. I have a tci in my car and i likes it. You may also want to look into continental, a1 and bte, i've heard good things about them.

The converter was around 250 bucks or so i believe. the car is a 79 camaro, approximately 3500 to 3800 pounds or so. My current rearend has a 4.11 gear ratio but im replacing it with a 3.73 for better highway driving. I realize that no matter what converter i have it will still pull at idle, im just wanting something that will let me get into the power range when i nail the throttle off the line. My desire is to have a stall that flashes to around 2500 rpm when i nail it. But as of right now it still launches at 1000 rpms now matter how hard i hit it. Truthfully, im just wanting to smoke them tires and i cant right now. I filled out the questionare on the coan site. Thanks again for any help i recieve.

No matter where i nail it from it doesnt flash or rev up and take off. It just gradually accelerates and pulls through the rpms. The brake stall is around 1500 before tires try to spin, on dirt that is, as far as pavement, i really cant tell because my brakes arent working very good right now, and it just pushes the car, but even at times when brakes were working "ok" it still turned em over just over 1500 seemed like.

Ive got some other tuning issues that i need to work out, timing, etc. Im doing some other top end mods to the motor, maybe that will help, but like i said, Im wanting a stall that will flash up to about 2500 rpm before it launches and one that doesnt quite drag so hard when i put it in gear. Glad to see that you are checking some tuning issues. If the motor is not up to snuff, it will definitely not make the power to give you the stall you are looking for, with the stall converter that you purchased.

As stated from B&M's site - "Stall speed listings are based on engines producing 230lb. ft. of torque at 2,500 rpm. More torque at 2,500 rpm will give you more stall speed, less torque at 2,500 rpm will give you less stall speed than the stall speed ratings indicated. "
