My truck has 2 sets of lights in the rear ... the standard 54 Chevy Red tail-lights (sitting independently off the body, just above the bumper) serving as park and brake lights ... and then, there are two amber lights (2" x 3" set in the bottom side of the tailgate) serving as blinkers.

Now that I'm planning out my EZ-Wire kit install, I want to install back-up lights ... something nice and bright, too.

Any suggestions on a cool set to install? Where to place them? And, especially, how do I determine what's gonna provide a nice bright light?

Also, I'm wondering about the above mentioned setup. Aren't the Brake lights and Blinker lights usually the red lights??

Maybe I should swap out the amber lights for white backups?

Your opinions and ideas are greatly appreciated!

If you want something bright go with LED's. If you want to see how bright they actually are look in Bullheimers album. He has a set on gis truck and they are definatly bright. Anything custom and flush mounted would mean body modification and repaint. Not a big deal if you up for the work. depending on the setup you can just limit the modification and painting to a certain area. If you want a custom shape you can get teardrops or those cool caddy tails and mount them on the exsterior beside the bed or above the bed or anywhere. I think buckets are made for these to be exsternally mounted, if not the can be pretty easily made.

Also usually all blinkers are amber lights except on passenger cars I beleive.

Glad to hear about the ambers ... that keeps it simple. And I guess a couple of teardrops would be cool - beside the bed, and low.

You said you want bright back up lights. You can install fog lights as backup lights. You can get small ones and place them just about anywhere.

horvath, I also use a set of fog lites for back up lites. my back up switch is fried in the tranny, and it's just wired to a toggle that I flip when its neeeded. also does wonders for as$holes behind me running hibeams <img src="graemlins/mwink.gif" border="0" alt="[mwink]" />

LOL!!! That's a GRAND idea, Crazy Larry! I always wish I could do something to those %&$##'s when they're riding around with their hi-beams on behind me.

I've decided to install a Gennie Shifter in my truck, and they just told me I'd have to order the backup lights assembly with it if I wanted the deal to happen when I shift into reverse ... I *was* gonna order the assembly, but now I'm thinking a pull switch will be a much better idea -- 2 birds; one stone!
