Does some one know if it is common to put a BB oil pump on a SBC 400? And if I do is there any thing other than correct sump depth I need to be aware of?
Honestly, there`s no good reason to do this, SBC`s have outstanding oiling systems on them, and adding a high volume pump or a big block pump will just eat more power, the standard pump is fine for a street strip vehicle.
Melling calls out the small block as M55 and the big block as M77, so they are not the same between the two. You can get pumps in "High pressure", "high volume" and a combo of both for the small block, why re-engineer it?
