Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows the camshaft specs for a old BBC Crane Fireball 300C Camshaft?
And also what are around the specs of a stock bbc camshaft?

Thanks

Hello,
The reason that I ask this, is because my friend has one that only has 500 miles on it, and then they pulled it and it has never been used since. So if anyone knows please reply. Its a BBC Crane Fireball 300C Camshaft, and i need specs!

Thanks

Trent

"Fair Idle" with a 300° Duration?

I found a really good article (I thought) on Big Block Bumpsticks: http://www.corvettefever.com/techarticles/153_0312_block/index1.html

Thier opinion is that 284° is "barely streetable" and requires lower gears, stall convertor and increased compression. (9.5 in Hg vaccuum at 900 RPM idle ... enough to provide vaccuum booster power brakes?)

My guess is that your friend who bought this cam originally realized that it was just too much ... and I'd bet it didn't take the whole 500 miles for him to figure that out. Ask him what he replaced it with!

"If some is good, then more is better!" is not always true.
That's my $0.02 worth...

Don, Your article is right on the money.. the @ .050 numbers are much more important than the advertised ones. With the lobe separation being so much wider (114 verses 110) the cam would have a little smoother idle. Not a real joy but better, hence Cranes claim of a "Fair idle" :welcome:

A mild lope at idle in a 396, very streetable with a stock converter in a light car, a Holeshot or equivelant torque converter would make it better. It would work best with 3.55 or lower gears. Nice all around cam in a 9.5 to 1 454 with just a hint of a mild lope thanks to the 114 LSA. Good street cam for an oval port BBC with a good dual plane intake, 9/9.5:1 comp. and small tube headers. I prefer LSA's of 110-112 myself but if the price was right I'd certainly take it. Just make sure they kept the lifters in order when they took them out.
