I'm planning a 496 build and want to run nitrous? I'm wondering if I will need a nitrous dedicated cam or not?

Current combo is Holley 1050, team G intake, worked 781 heads(maybe get diff heads), forged assembly, and planned on a comp magnum 629/629 solid cam.
I'm wanting to run around a 250 shot of nos.
Will be in a street chevelle.

Nope, you don`t have to run a "nitrous" cam. However, it is perferred that the cam have more lift and duration on the exhaust side. Every nitrous cam I`ve seen has considerably more on the exhaust side as nitrous creates a very high amount of exhaust. But, you can run a single pattern cam just as well with nitrous, we did it many times. Some times when in a crutch when somebody already has a single pattern cam and they want to run nitrous they just add higher ratio rockers on the exhaust side.

The "nitrous spec" cam is really only needed if you are trying to get the maximum power out of the engine with the nitrous on and don't care how much less power it makes with the nitrous off because you never run it with it off. Example would be a power-adder heads-up class at an NMCA/PSCA/ORSCA/ADRL-type race.

The "nitrous" cam will make less power on just the motor, and would be a bad choice for the occasional nitrous user for this reason, but will let the motor make 270+ hp with jets rated at 200 hp(for example).

If you are using the nitrous to just add some "fun" power to what you have, spec the cam for the motor and let the nitrous just add whatever it will add for the power level you jet it to.
