Heres a great article on the "How To's" of working with lead ...

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

" The hazards of excessive lead exposure are long documented, and as with many materials used in car crafting, common sense and respect are essential. The biggest hazard is the prolonged ingestion of dust. Always wear a quality, OSHA-approved, cartridge type of mask; full clothing and gloves are sensible precautions as well. Avoid overheating the lead, which not only hampers the job but increases airborne fumes. The idea is to lead the car’s body, not your own."
