I have had some experience with the base coat clear coat paint when it comes to sanding the clear coat with 1500 grit sandpaper then buffing it out to a high gloss finish. I was wondering if you could spray 3 coats of Dupont Imron, sand that with 1500 grit sandpaper, buff to a high gloss and get the same results??

buffing Imron

If you wouldnt mind. Can you still buy Imron paint? I have a gallon of red that was used for fire trucks. Its old but been sealed good so its probably still usaeble. Problem; I thought they outlawed it. What I need is the activator. I painted Imron once and it came with one quart I believe of activator and used no thinner or reducer. The paint covered with a couple coats real good, flowed good and looked like glass smooth. So what company sells the activator, paint etc? I dont need the paint but I could give it to a buddy to paint his truck if I can get the additive it needs or I guess it needs it to dry and harden. thanks

The place I work at uses imron paint. Both single stage and base/lear. Yes it can be buffed, unless single stage metallic or pearl. No different then urethane, although polyurethanes are a tough paint, so may not want to wait more then a week to do it. Imron is dupont, in the old days it was single stage polyurethane, now they have it in ss and base/clear.
