ok well we have a couple of caddillac motors 472's 500's etc... i plan on building one up for racing, reading on specs a "stock" 1970 500 had 550lbs ft tq. and 400 hp. not too bad to begain with. a 500 has a 4.304 bore. couldn't i bore it .010 over and have 4.310 bore same as chevy bb. then put any kind of pistons i want , to get around 13. to 1 comp??? i see they sell aluminum heads for caddy now. that would weigh less than a sb with cast heads . where could i find some bigger cams for this motor.?? does this sound like a good motor to begin with, going into a 71 nova

High nickel block; great for longevity, not so great for high revs. The main weakness to overcome first is the stock valvetrain. The valvesprings float at about 4500, and the rocker arm "T" stands are pathetic. Both of those companies above sell a very nice shaft conversion, both in roller and non-roller. They only weigh a touch more than an SBC and dollar for dollar they are about the same cost to build as a BBC up to about 500 hp, then the caddy gets more expensive.

Edelbrock still makes an intake for it, and there are also adapters to fit Ford 460 parts on them; valve covers, intakes. There are also some spotty headers here and there, but they sell the flanges alone, then you can take BBC headers, cut the flanges off and weld them in the caddy flanges.
