If you polish out the scratches, you will probably end up with some optical distortions in the glass.

If you can't find an NOS glass, sometimes a good antique watch/clock repair shop can come up with convex glass in that size range.

Good luck.....

I routinely polish both watch crystals and glass with a product I get at my Ace Hardware Store. It is called "Wenol" and it has no abrasives. I even clean the plastic on my head lamp covers and always comes out nice. My wife uses it on the mirrors in the house too.
