I recently bought a 1970 Chevy C10 short bed with 350 engine 4bolt main and yes it is a 4x4.

The engine doesn't look like a 1970 chevy how can I confirm the year of the engine?

Does the engine block has a serial number somewhere that would indicate what year is the engine - if so where is located?

Thank you

There are numbers case into the top of the bell housing area, drivers side right behind the cylinder head. There are also stamped numbers on a block pad extending in front of the passenger side cylinder head, if the block hasn't be decked they should be visible.

Get the numbers, poke around these sites and research them

What makes you think it doesn't look like a '70 Chevy?

What do you see that makes you say the engine does not look like its a 1970 Chevy 350?

Most of the external parts are interchangeable between multiple years. Even if its original, it wouldn't be unusual to see a swap to a serpentine belt system, HEI, and other parts from newer 350 engines.
