Does the numbers stamped on the piston tops mean that the cylinders have been bored?

I cannot find what that suffix code is. I have never seen one stamped FBH. Could this be a crate engine from Tonawanda?

The part# for the piston is usually stamped on a pad underneath the piston. On the very top some are marked std,.030,.040, and .060. I can't help you on the FBH suffix. I looked on several different websites with no luck.

Maybe someone re-stamped the block and got it wrong.
I found a TBH. 1970 truck 402.
What's the casting number?

The factory has used numbers, letters, and symbols to designate different weights and sizes for use during assembly. The block is also often marked for size. This compensates for the slight variations in bore size that occurs during production and allows the workers to select the correct piston for the bore w/o needing to remeasure each hole and piston.

As for the stamped in TO928FBH, this does resemble the suffix code line found on the passenger front of the block. If it is, that's the first time I've seen it there. Doubt it was factory, if anything it was done to ID the pistons to that block. Lot of trouble to go to when a simpler method could have been used, IMO- but who knows.
