My new to me 2008 Chevy truck has a 4.8 L. engine with heads that look very different from what I'm used to. I'm told it's direct fire or direct injection or something like that. Where can I go online to get a cut away view of whats there and an explanation of how it works. Sooner or later I'm going to have to tackle it and I want to be prepared.

Thanks in advance.

The engine is the Gen III small block, they are also referred to as the LS series. There are iron block 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0, aluminum block 5.3, 5.7, 6.0, 6.2, and 7.0 all of them are distributor less, fuel injection. They share no parts with the previous small block Chevy. They can be ran on a stand alone computer or they can be adapted to use a distributor and carb. They are considered to be the best SBC ever.
