you are still looking at 350 cams. The 305 has the same piston speed as a 350 3.7 bore Vs a 4" bore of a 350. The math is different for a 305. I wish I could type a long winded explanation like Bogie. If you put an intake and headers on with the cam change then you can make power and sound good. Unfortunately 350s need bigger headers than a 305.
If you just want a poser cam that works get a semi custom. look for 220º duration. .390 lift AKA short track small engine lift rules cam. 104-106º exhaust needs to be 110ishº with 8º split. For fun use a 650 x Holley or similar

congratulations you chose the H260. Turn the idle speed down and some people will hear the cam sound. Without headers that sound will be slightly diminished. Good luck. Takes 7-8 hours to change out the cam by yourself if the grill comes out of your car easily or you have enough room? If that cam is on some ones shelf give us a cal the next day let us know how it goes

top of this page popular hotrodding 67 Camaro. Your engine is not a 327 or 307
did I read it wrong?
Yea you read it wrong...

He's stating he uses the HE260 installed 4° retarded in his L69 and claims is perfect for the L69...

He then goes on to explain why he wouldn't use it in a 350 and uses the '67 Camaro owned by someone else as an example :

wheather the cam goes in late or on time its the HE260 not 206. If thats what you want go for it. Most people dont realise that the cam fits the driver/owner more than the car. There are no engines that I personally use where that is the correct cam. Sounds like its a little light for what you originally posted? It will function so if you like what other people said then go for it

looking at your above post^^^
in reference to "rat-a-tat"

these specs would give similar sound but more bottom end. You have more than enough to choose from now

🍿🍿🍿🍿 Just munching away at this point! Tynan do you still want the lopey sound even at the expense of bottom end power, using an old worn out stock 305? If you do, just say so! It's easy to choose such a cam. Wanting this is not a crime, and plenty of people have done this before! Probably run better than it did with your flat stock cam.

To my knowledge the 305 has the same 3.48" stroke as a 350 just a small variation in bore size. It could be looked at as an .30 under-bored 350. (We are talking close to a 1/4 of an inch per cylinder) using a 350 spec cam in the OP's worn out engine will gain his desired result.

I believe the same basic performance "improvements" cam, intake, exhaust, timing apply. With that said a choppy lopey idle from a flat tappet cam should be easier to obtain using off the shelf 350 parts. In my youth we ran "rings & bearings" rebuilt 305s for dirt track racing when money was tight. Those received the speed parts from the 350 that had died the weekend before. They ran good for what they were.

350 parts - Looking at cost, the price on a stock cam for a SBC is the same as a generic mild cam.

Using a flat tappet cam and lifters today is a crap shoot at best. With All the stories about junk lifters and cams going flat. Sounds like your trying to go thru a lot of work on a possible engine that needs more than just a cam swap. You may be dis appointed in the out come. Just saying.

^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^ is how i'm feeling as well lately.
i think the trend is going towards roller cams and thus the cam companies aren't putting much effort into flat lifter cams?

How much would it cost, and what is involved, to switch to a roller cam in this application?
