I've got a Craftsman 30 gallon compressor that I put in the basement to lessen floor space problems in the garage.

I ran pipe up to the garage and installed an in-line water filter and an oiler in the basement. On the end of the pipe, I have a 30 ft hose that I have never removed. I empty the compressor tank after use.

The problem I have is a lot of water in the line. The water filter gets a light mist inside it, but doesn't seem to trap much.

Should the filter be closer to the end of the pipe?

Any suggestions?

Your filter/oiler should be as close to the hose as possible. Otherwise the water vapor in the line condenses between the filter and your outlet, before it gets to your hose.

Thanks Bob. I can do some redo of the pipe in the garage for another filter. I think it'll be ok to leave the other one in.

It's a good idea to make that pipe coming out of garage as high as possible then drop down to your outlets. Slope the pipe downward to the flow of air.

Some good tips. Thankfully, my piping only runs about 20 ft, but I can see where I shot myself in the foot.

air line water

You could do what i did when i had the same thing at a bodyshop that i owned. I took and old drive shaft[the bigger the better]put a petcock on one end for a drain. Then ran my air line in at the center of shaft. Next i took my air off a fitting that i'd put at the top of shaft.Worked great no more water in my paint jobs. I still used a water fillter after my home made water tap. The idea is water is heavyer than air. So when it enters open space in drive shaft it'll fall to bottom of shaft and clean air goes to top of shaft.After a hot summer day you would'nt believe how much water would come out of that drive shaft.

If water is getting though the filter (you need it as close to the end as said) but if the water is passing you need a larger seperator and a smaller micron filter.

You are getting water from the warm air that you are pumping from the basement to the cold garage. Air gives off condensation when it cools. better to have the compresser in the cold, then there is no temperature change.
