I'm trying to find out if there are conversion tapered roller bearings out there. As in a front wheel bearing that needs an A3 outer diam and an A2 bore? I'm trying to avoid a bearing adapter sleeve if possible. Thanks, Dave
I'm looking for a bearing that will be an A3 on its outside diameter (actual rollers and race) to fit my hub and with an A2 size bearing inner bore to fit my spindle. In other words the A3's bore is too big for my intended spindle. I can look up the specs on both bearings and report the dimensions if that helps anyone here.
If you have the specs on the bearing required then you can go to an industrial bearing supplier and see if they can get you a bearing of the correct dimensions. Mcmaster carr catalog shows various shaft diameters and outside dimensions and they are not the only bearing supplier out there..
Check Timken.com for their catalogs and ther are a bunch of catalogs to choose from so you have some homework to do..
Depending on what yer tryin' to do, there are several bearings available at yer local parts store that will do it.
There are also companies such as Bearings and Drive, or Dixie Bearing, that can fix you up. You just need the dimensions of the bearing you need, ID, OD, and thickness. All measured in inches. As far as I know, there are no metric bearings. (at least I haven't seen any)
If you are trying to do a brake hub swap wilwood dimension info for hubs, spindles, bearings might help. If that is what you are trying to do ? ? , or some other hubs and bearings might work ? ? Interesting hubs. I'm a Wilwood dealer and have never noticed those before. Back to my coversion, I'm trying to install 62-68 buick roller bearing drum hubs onto 39 Ford juice spindles. I've solved the rear bearing adaption and am hoping to find a bearing that will work without a separate tube type spacer that slips over the spindle end.
I have a bunch of 64 buick parts, and have looked a using the fins on a project. There is quite a bit of info on the HAMB forums about various conversions, new hubs, reworking Ford hubs etc, I think mabe even using the GM hubs. .The project is a ways down the road, so I have just skimmed the info. About 50 years ago I was running a 4.56 olds rear in my roadster and wanted better front brakes and matching wheel patterns so I got mid 50's olds spindles-brakes . I had new bronze bushings pressed into the spindles then reamed to fit Ford kingpins, I had to have the Ford axle heated and bent to get correct castor. a lot of the Gm stuff from various years can be swapped. Just like Ford, model A, 30's and 40's, Ford F1 and early econoline swaps. I think there used to be a King Bearing store in Reno. I think they have been bought out and now a new name on the doors. When I went in to get new bearings for my Big 4 X 4 Case tractor I had the hubs in the truck but the counter guy said He didn't need to look at them. everything was in the computor. /They were $ 200 each and didn't fit. but they took them back for a refund with No shipping or restock charges. I would take all the pieces with you to make sure everything works.
There is some info on the hamb about doing lincoln brakes with Buick drums. I haven't pulled my lincoln axle apart. the hamb has all the modern part numbers for replacement parts from later years and using self adjusters from later Ford pickups, Chevy Wagon 12 in rear brakes. etc. There are a lot more old school guys there. Tha hamb search functions are old, slow and hard to find what you read a couple years ago. I now print out info and keep it in notebooks. Sometimes I can't remember what she cooked for breakfast, but it is always Good.
