im trying to find out if the 8 3/4 and dana 60 are the same axle alot of sites are saying parts are the same. are they the same axle?

Absolutely not.
Dana 60 is significantly larger. Dana 60 has removable rear cover (3/8" bolts)
and 8 3/4" is drop out center section (front loaded).

so the 8/34 is simalar looking to the ford 9 inch with no rear bolts? i should have a dana 60 than i have a 74 d100 so i would asume they would use that type of axle for a 360 pick up

Actually you probably have a Chrysler 9 1/4 rear end. It was introduced around 69/70 and Chrysler used it to replace both the 8 3/4 and the Dana.

It is completly different than either the Dana or 8 3/4. As I recall it has a 12 bolt rear cover. They are a pretty good unit and supported reasonably well in the aftermarket. I've found a pretty fair amount of them with Posi's both in passenger cars and light trucks.

i have a 10 bolt round cover slight bluge from the differential

A round 10 bolt rear cover would be the light duty Chrysler 8 1/4 rear end.

These do tend to break when subject to abuse. Neither the Dana or the 9 1/4 are round.

well thats a good thing to know considering i was about to weld a four link to it. i figure i should just find a narrowed dana 60 my application will blow up that rear end(8 1/4)
