I have a 82 cutlass, with a 86 307. The only things added to my 307 are a holley 600 cfm carb. A vacuumed advance dizzy from a 77 442 cutlass, and tge ecm is removed with all the smog junk. Im wanting to find a car/truck from junk yard to swap out my rear differrntial gear an pinions with . But cant find any links or.a.list of what car will have what I need. I want.to keep my rearend, jus swap the gears, anyone know.what.i should be looking for? Will the 77 442 swap with my g body... Thx

The 77 may have an 8.5" Diff. The 82 has a 7.5".

When you say "just swap the gears" I can't help but think that you don't realize what your in for. You'd be money ahead to buy new gears, ring and pinion sets cam be kind of like flat tappet cams they develop wear patterns and may not respond well to change. It would be far easier to swap in a complete rearend with a better ratio. Every street stock racer in the country has one in the weeds behind his garage.

Most 3rd gen Camaros and S10s used the 7.5" axle. Gears and posi units are cheap and easy. Of course, installing it properly requires skill and proper tools. Don't expect miracles from the 307. You'd be money ahead by bolting in an Olds 455.
