I have one I want to get rid of

Whatever Donation service you use, BE SURE they transfer the paperwork BEFORE you give them the car...

Most of these donation services are just wrecking yards that kick back some to the charity...and a lot of the time someone ends up with the car who can't or won't register it...

This happened To my son...The CHP came to the Door along with the Sheriff with a warrant for his arrest for a hit and run that happened months after he donated his car..someone got the plate number..and it came back to him...and it didn't matter they took him that night to jail...BECAUSE the DMV computer said it was still his...the release of liability was never filed nor was the name changed on the registration!!

Hmm . . . the local goodwill out here seems to take anything. Even cars. Perhaps its a regional thing.

We used to take cars at our store, but then the company got to cheap to pay for the tow truck to haul them down to the auto auction. Plus it didn't help that the people that work at the auction were selling cars with no titles :nono: I dunno...never had someone try and donate a rolling chasis before...I imagine that would be on our list of "unacceptable donations"

If you donate it you can claim it on your taxes only if you itemize.Right now you can write off "fair-market value".As of 01-01-05 you will no longer be able to do it that way,you will be able to write off only what the car auctions off for.Make sure title and paperwork is transferred first though.VOA is right next to where I work at and people donate alot of JUNK.Have seen several old boats without trlrs. that would surely sink the minute they got in the H2O.Most cars are drug in there.Too many people claiming that the car with a blown up engine and rats inside is actually worth $3000.00 but would really fetch $50.00 are what caused the change in the tax law.

I put a good washing machine out when I was moving,I had a Free sign put on it and no one touched it.I was complaining about trying to get rid of it,one of the guys at work said put a For Sale sign on it and someone will steal it.I thought about it and did put one on it,two days later it was gone.

When I had almost finished building my garage,<I had not installed any door locks yet> I went away for vacation. I put all my broken and customer never returned to pick up electronics in the garage. We put "repair completed" tags on all of them and they were gone by the time I returned home.

I bet those thieves felt pretty stupid.

You might try contacting a local community college to see if they could use it. You can write it off and help out the college at the same time. A lot of CC's don't have the budget to get everything they need and it might come in handy. For instance putting it on an alignment rack with nothing in the way to show the students the effect of changing things.

Well, you could WELD a mailbox to it, plant Ivy and flowers in it...and move it to the curb.. call it a "Yard Gnome"... name it "Rusty"...

Seriously, Call a recycler, and have them pick it up for scrap metal...

Or you could get a cutting torch and cut it up in 2 foot pieces and haul it to the dump yourself.
