I have a 1955 Ford Fairlane Club Sedan and when I shut the doors they close but there is like a ridge between the body and the door panel on the outside, and when I push the door it shakes, but I mean if i push from the inside it shakes, but it won't like push open, can someone help me fix it? Preferably w/o having to strip paint or weld anything, Im 16 and got the car this way it is in good cond., but the doors, the guy we got it from said it was the weather stripping and that it would wear in but I have had the car since June of 2002. TIA

Ok, sorry to bring this question up again but this time I have a picture of my passenger side door, now if I have to adjust the door latches, how would I go about doing that, sorry but I don't have much practice with this side of cars, up until now the most I have done is changed an oil pan gasket.TIA

The latches have 2 positions, one is all the way closed and the other is a safety catch so that it won't fly open. You have it adjusted now so that it can't get into the closed position. I think you need to move the latch on the door post out a bit, so it can get to that second position.

Right!

Now if that does not correct the problem the 55-57 had poor door latches, the first thing they do is stop locking on the second notch.
The unit is available from any of the ford suppliers but you will need to turn in your old one as a core charge. The last one i bought for the 57 bird was about $30 exchanged. "Cascos in Ohio"

OK, Thank You very much, to try the first one, do I take of the latch and put a gasket under it to move it out more, Sorry for what may be dumb questions, but I just don't wanna do anything wrong, and also are we talking on the body of the car or on the door that I have to move out further.

The striker plate will have 3or4 big Phipps's heads. Just loosen and it will move up and down and in and out,
Latch on door is stationary.

Ok, I think I might try today. Im not doing anything, There isn't a hole that the stikerplate can fall into in the body is there? Sorry Again about these ?s I just really can't mess up and the most I have done with a car is change oil and oil pan gasket. Mainly cause when I got the car, it was in the condition it is in now, no painting to do, no engine work until now, I posted a thread in Engines about it not starting, and no problems really. So thats why I don't have much practice.Thank You To everyone.

K, so I did it and it catches on both of the stops so it is closed, but now I look at the chrome molding on the side and it doesn't line up that well, so do I have to also adjust the hinges?, if so how?, and when I shut it it catches on both stops but the door still sticks out a little and when I push on the door it goes in a little and matches the body, but when I let go it pushes back to where it was.TIA

You've moved the latch, but not fine tweaked it. It takes some experimenting to get it correct. You align the body lines such as chrome by moving the latch up or down. You adjust the door to be flush with the adjacent panel by setting the latch forwards or back. If it's too far back, the door won't close far enough to hit the second catch. Too far forward and the door will set out past the adjacent panel. Just take your time and experiment with it. Make small changes, tighten it back, close the door and examine the alignment. Small changes make for small mistakes. Take your time and you will get it perfect.
