if top fuelers don't have rear suspenssion and do great, what if I fix solid the rear axle of my drag car? it's not meant to be driven on the streets, so does it really need rear springs and linkage?

they have softwall slicks.. and a long wheelbase and enough power..

and have a huge problem called tire shake.. remember the side walls are 8" tall.. at rest. taller at speed, that is their springs

Top Fuel cars have suspension, of a sort. Chassis bow and flex, weight distribution, clutch/power application, and rear tire dynamics to name a few things allows them to run w/o shocks and links, etc. If you tried this there would be disastrous results, it would blow the tires off every time.:pain:

Instead of a rail, look at a Pro Stocker. They have mega adjustability to tune for the track conditions.

The video below shows the suspension movement during an 1/8 mile run. There's not a whole lot of movement, but what there is is totally necessary for it to hook:

rear suspension

An old friend of mine, The Late Joe Davis of the Davis and Ingram race team built a Record setting T altered , at one time had 4 records at the same time. , The Jewel T, picts and stories on the net. In the 70's Joe was one if not the first to use adjustable coil overs on the rear suspension, He also had the wheelie bars mounted so they did not follow the same place as the tire tracks. He coated the wheelie castors with white shoe polish, on launch the white polish laid a pattern on the track , He would go back and see if they were even, if not, then adjust the coil overs to get even pull from both rear tires.
If you google Jewel T drag car and watch the old video's on U tube , one of the launch shots shows the shoe polish being laid on the pavement. I don,t know what type of timing lights you use where you race, but Joe was able to jump the lights in the old days with offset and solid disc wheels. I have posted some info on the Hamb forums and so has Ingram's son about the team's Fiat altered , the first Funny car Mustang, Colt 45, and the Jewel T, they built and raced

Top fuelers have a 500 cu in Hemi, a blower, and nitro. Does your car have that too? There's pretty much NOTHING from a TF car that applies to yours. Sorry, but as stated, look at the chassis and suspension of cars closer to yours in class, like Super Stockers. The successful racers in those classes aren't using expensive, super-adjustable suspensions just because they like to spend money.

OK, understood, I'm running rear suspension. :thumbup:

now being costwise pretty close, what would be best for launching in somewhat dirty street asphalt, we don't have a pro track here yet, we close a section of a street to build our 1/8 mile track, a 4 link or a ladder bar system?.

how good would it be if I make adjustable bars for my 4 link G body's? or better off starting from scratch?
