Like for bead locks? If so, bead locks keep the bead to the rim better. Steve

before beadlocks people used and may still use hex head sheetmetal screws to keep from spinning the wheel inside the tire.The holes were for the screws.Slicks provide more traction making the wheel more likely to slip.
