I have had a heck of a time sealing the exhaust manifold on my 2.6 V6 in my Capri. New gaskets are scarce as hen's teeth. I cut out some solid aluminum gaskets out of 18 gauge and that seemed to help but the surfaces of the manifolds are not completely flat. I had been chasing an intermittent miss for a while. New plugs and wires hasn't eliminated it. Will a leak cause a miss?

I'm thinking of making some crushable ring inserts made of copper braiding from some TV cable and solder the ends together.

if the leak has been neglected for a long enough time and it was a severe leak it`s likely burned the valve, I would run a compression check on it and if one comes up 0 or rather low then you know what comes next.

Not to imply any lack of skill....are you sure it's missing?
Sometimes an exhaust leak at the engine makes the engine "sound" like it's missing.
