edelbrock heads and manifold not matching up

733 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  watchdude1
HI, I purchased edelbrock heads and I have an alumnium intake manifold, the manifold water ports are one in the front and one in the middle, the new heads have one in the front and one in the back they don't match up, what do I do buy a new manifold to match the heads? see pictures, does anyone know what type of manifold I have ? from what I can tell it is a pre 1969 with the oil filler in the front.

The middle port is not a water port...it's a heat crossover port and the performance heads don't use it...
All Small Block Chevy heads have symmetrical water ports, that way they can be used on either side of the engine. No small block intake manifolds have a rear water crossover, the rear water port is always blocked by the manifold, this is normal unless a racing manifold is used to modify the cooling system.

You are fine, bolt it up.

That center port on the manifold is not a water port, it is the exhaust heat crossover port from the factory head. The Edelbrock heads don't have this port, it is not neccesary with aluminum heads. Again no big deal, bolt it up, you are fine. :)
what about the open port in the back of the head it will be blocked off?
the manifold does't have an opening on it. will my manifold work on those heads thanksfor the info never saw this situation the old heads match the old manifold that is what makes me wonder.

Both of my SBC are the same way. I was wondering if a cross over hose would help but from what I have been reading its not required.
Manifold looks to be early Edelbrock Performer or Wieand Action Plus, it's not a factory intake because it has no choke pad below the pass side of carb above the crossover port.
ericnova72 thanks just read your thread that answers my qustion Thanks I also have a 72 Nova Nice!

If you are talking about the rear water port on the head at the manifold mounting face, the manifold blocks this off. ALL small block chevy's are this way unless the manifold is specially modified or is a race manifold.
It was blocked by the manifold on your old heads too. This is normal
Thanks you are wright on the mark. :)
