Hey everyone, Im in the process of installing an electric fan in my 57 Chevy. I want to run a Spal 195-TS temp swich that turns the fan on at 195, off at 175. My question is what temperature thermostat should I run with this? I currently have a 180 or 185 degree thermostat. Would the two be fighting each other as the fan is trying to cool down to 175, the thermostat would be closed until the temp comes back up. Or is this not a big deal. My other option would be to run a 160 degree thermostat? What are your opinions on this.

Thanks, Craig

The problem is that most of the temp sensors have a 20 degree range, so I could run a 205 on / 185 off switch, but I really didn't want it to get that high. Maybe a better setup would be to use a 195 on / 175 off switch with a 170 degree thermostat? How does this sound?

205/185 sounds better than the alternative. running up to 200 or even 210 wont hurt a thing. Running an engine cold can make a little more power but causes faster oil contamination and more wear on the engine.
