This is to all you hot rodders out there, I'm rebuilding a 235 6cyl. chevy motor,it's going in my '53 chevy, which is my daily driver. I'd like to put on a dual carb intake and maybe a mild performance cam, I'm wondering if I should run it with two stock single barrel carbs or two two barrel carbs also, am I going to have to beef up the rebuild or will this work with the stock rebuild components? Also will I have to go with split manifolds or can I get by with the stock single exhaust? I drive this car to work everyday and I'm looking for a little more performance, not to mention the dual carbs on a six would look cool. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

In my estimation, you would be better off to build a 250 or 292 I-6, as they are newer design engines and have 7 main cranks vs the 5 main in your 235. Not to mention they put out, stock, a lot more in stock trim than does your 235.

The 54 Vettes came with a 235 6 pack that had 3 side draft Wbers on them. If you can find one of those intakes, with the carbs, while very rare and pricey, that would make a definately different setup. BTW, the only engine option and trans was a 235 with a powerglide.
The 235 in the Vette was rated at 150 hp at the flywheel. I dont know if they had a different cam or what kind of exhaust setup they had on them.

That year does have a two X 1 barrel setup available.
